Gomez will stay at Anfield for another five years, with the centre-back agreeing a long-term extension to his deal that will take him to 2027.
With the No. 12 agreeing to remain with Liverpool beyond his 30th birthday, there are likely to have been assurances of regular game time as part of Klopp’s defence.
But as Liverpool fans took to Twitter to react to Gomez’s new deal, many looked further ahead to a long-term partnership with Konate.
? Joe Gomez’s contract is great news for #LFC. Very experienced, but the best years remain ahead for him, and he’s still so young. Alongside Ibrahima Konate, very much the future.

Excellent news this. You can’t compete for, never mind win, trophies these days without a squad packed with quality. That means players who can not only come in, but are good enough to stay in, if needed. Joe Gomez can play anywhere across the back and has that quality #LFC https://t.co/LeiTNm6jdZ

Joe Gomez has signed his new contract with Liverpool and will remain at Anfield until 2027. For all the challenges he’s faced, the one thing not in question is his ability. There was never any prospect of Liverpool letting him leave ?

Joe Gomez suffered 4 long-term injuries before the age of 24 yet still is an absolute physical machine.
Pace, power, crossing ability and was an elite professional last season. Probably wanted to play more, yet didn’t moan once.
So, so glad he’s staying.

Surprised by this given how far he’s fallen down the CB pecking order but also delighted. Gomez is brilliant and would almost certainly be Van Dijk’s regular partner were it not for injuries. Absolutely at ‘the level’ to play in this Liverpool side, and offers decent cover at RB. https://t.co/owx1NYQYTC

We are incredibly fortunate to have Joe Gomez wanting to stay and extending his contract. Versatile and massive part of our success at RB or alongside Van Dijk. Could’ve easily asked to leave to regain his England spot but he’s committing his future for us. What a man.

Don’t think people realise how mad that Gomez x Konate pairing is going to be in a few years time

Despite not being a Liverpool regular, Joe Gomez is still arguably England’s best centre back when fit. Not that the bar is very high when you’ve got dross like Maguire, Mings and Keane getting international caps.

Fantastic news on Joe Gomez. I genuinely think he’s England’s best centre back.

Despite only having turned 25 at the end of May, Gomez is a highly experienced defender, with seven seasons at Liverpool already under his belt.
He joined as an 18-year-old in 2015, and though injuries have held him back, he has proved himself an elite centre-back who, if fit, would be a regular starter for England, too.
Though Van Dijk is primed to stay at the top for many years yet, Liverpool have future-proofed their defence with Gomez and Konate both tied down into their prime years.
